WHAT I’M UP TO …

I wish I could tell you that life has totally calmed down but, alas, it has not. You probably guess that when you didn’t get a message from me last week.

I’ve had a few migraines (boo!) and my mom had to go to the emergency room via an ambulance after passing out and falling. She wasn’t hurt but given her age, they had to be thoroughly checked out to be sure it wasn’t a heart attack or stroke.

She came home the next day but it took about a week to figure out the diagnosis. It was definitely worrisome until we knew, but the good news is, it turns out it’s something that I’m pretty familiar with. Labyrinthitis! You know, that thing I gave Mickey in Slew Foot? lol What are the odds? Hers is way less severe, and other than a few mild dizzy spells since, she feels fine. It should clear up pretty quickly and won’t cause any long-term issues.

Unfortunately, a friend of the family was also just diagnosed with a very worrisome type of cancer. He’s about my age and he has a couple of kiddos who already lost their mom to a very aggressive cancer when they were younger, so please send good thoughts their way if you can. It’s gonna be a rough road for them all.

In more joyful news, I spent Labor Day at my cousin’s house. We had a nice lunch, and I helped her plan out a guest bedroom re-do. Her son graduated college/moved out of state with a great job, so it’s time to get rid of the pre-teen outer space theme and go for something she’d like.

I was asked to consult because I’m the one in the family with the most artistic eye (we’ve got a LOT of engineers!) and her husband would love to help but is colorblind, so picking out a color scheme isn’t his strongest suit.

We have plans in October to visit the studio of an artist she knows and pick out a pretty piece of art to use as the focal point for the room design. It’s such a fun, creative project for me and I am so excited to help her.

I also went to see the Practical Magic sequel with a friend. Was it perfect? No, but I still loved it. I laughed and I cried and I drooled over Lee Pace, so really, what more could I want? (actually, I would have loved to have a better soundtrack.)

By the time you get this, I will also have gone to see Linda Perry and the Indigo Girls in concert. I’m going with a friend, the weather is supposed to be a nice fall temp, and I am really looking forward to it!

Writing:

• Despite everything, Christmas at O’Neill’s is coming together! I figured out the remainder of the chapters and solved a weird little snag I was having.

Audio:

• James is recording the tweaks for the Game Misconduct audio chapters and it will be ready to go for the release on September 29^th! You can pre-order it here.

Events: 

• I’ll be selling and signing books at Hockey Romance Night with the Grand Rapids Griffins on October 19 at Van Andel Arena. Tickets are on sale on Wed. September 9^th at 10:00 am EST.
