GAME MISCONDUCT – COVER REVEAL

Writing, editing, and releasing Game Misconduct has been unmitigated chaos from beginning to end. I should have predicted this, because if we thought Jesse Webber was chaos, it’s nothing compared to the natural disaster that is Tanner Clayton.

Tanner is joyful in every way but he does tend to disrupt things wherever he goes. Including every part of this book.

If something can go wrong, it HAS gone wrong. If something can be more complicated/difficult/confusing than it needs to be, it has been.

It’s a bit like perpetually having Mercury in Retrograde. While Mercury was actually IN Retrograde.

During that time, I also managed to slip and injure my foot and have a plumbing disaster. It’s been a challenge!

What does this have to do with the cover? Well, keep reading.

I had a terrible time finding a photo of a model that would capture Tanner’s bright, joyful energy AND who had dark, curly hair.

I spent months searching for one. On stock photo sites, with photographers who do exclusive images ... no luck.

There was one guy I had bookmarked and I was almost sold on him but I began to have doubts and no one felt quite right.

A photographer I spoke to had someone who was perfect, except for his facial hair. As luck would have it, he was going to be shooting the model again, the model no longer had the facial hair, and I could do a semi-custom shoot and pick poses & outfits. Fun!

The downside is, it was RIGHT before release week. Cutting it very close. And then the model said he couldn’t make it the day of.

I was DONE. I swear, for about half an hour, I considered quitting writing and running away to live in a bog.

But that would be silly, so I worked out Plan B. The backup stock photo that I kinda liked but wasn’t 100% sold on.

But the more I worked on it, the more the more he began to grow on me. It was a bummer that the model hadn’t worked out but I started to love my backup man.

And then the model said he could do it after all. sighs

In the end, I decided to go with the backup guy. I was frustrated with the model, stressed that I’d get the images at the last minute, and it felt safer and smarter to just go with Plan B (who was originally Plan A. Are you following this?)

And now that the cover is done, I kinda love backup guy.

He feels joyful and fun and he has curly dark hair and nice abs and like he’d be good at throwing someone a cheerful wink and a smile to make their day better.

He feels like the kind of guy who would drive Crawford up the wall on the bench and in the locker room and make Leif lose his mind (on and off the ice!) and, well, like TANNER.

And like Tanner, I am choosing to believe that everything works out in the end. That this model was always meant to be on the cover.
