WHAT I’M UP TO …

A seafoam green coffee cup is in front of a hand holding a pen writing in a notebook. The text reads, "WHAT I'M UP TO..." and the date.

This week I made some tough choices AND had some good things happen, so let’s get into it!

Migraines have been … not great and I made the incredibly tough decision to drop out of Hockey Romance Night with the Grand Rapids Griffins.

That has nothing to do with the event or the organizers, they are wonderful! It’s simply that I don’t physically feel up to it. Because the migraines have been so debilitating for the past few months, I haven’t been able to adequately prepare for the event. There is also a very high probability that I will have a severe attack that day and be in no shape to handle the demands of a signing.

I am so sorry if you were planning to attend and won’t be able to see me there. It wasn’t an easy choice to pull out and I’m a little heartbroken about it, but I appreciate your understanding while I rest and focus on my health.

In happier news, I finished Christmas at O’Neill’s! See below for more on that.

I also celebrated my mom’s 80th birthday on Thursday. She doesn’t act, feel, or look eighty so it feels a little surreal that both of my parents are that age now, but I am grateful to be able to spend this time with them. We had a quiet celebration with a nice little dinner, my mom opened her gifts, and we had a delicious Washing Apple Cake. It’s our family’s go-to celebration cake. It’s a sheet cake filled with apples, lots of spices, and cream cheese frosting. It is THE BEST, especially this time of year.

I tentatively have plans to go to an art fair on Saturday with my parents, then meet a friend for dinner at an Ethiopian restaurant we both really enjoy. This is all migraine-dependent, so please send good thoughts that it’ll be a good day for me. If not, well, I’m grateful to have understanding friends and family.

Want to know what else I’ve been up to?

Writing:

  • Christmas at O’Neill’s is written! I’ll be simultaneously sending it to beta readers and my editor in the same week, which isn’t my favorite. I prefer to send it to beta readers first, but it’s the only way to keep the schedule on track. I am incredibly happy with how it turned out, however, and confident that it will still be a wonderful story and we’ll have plenty of time to get it nicely polished and released on time for you!

Audio:

  • James has begun recording Preston’s Christmas Escape in audio! I can’t wait to listen.

Shop:

  • Work on the shop ground to a halt because of migraines but I am doing my best to finish the team gear and O’Neill’s Pub merch. I know you’re going to love it.

  • I know I teased you with some exciting audio news but unfortunately, we’ve run into a little snag because of Audible (they are always causing problems). I promise, you will find out as soon as we can give you actual dates.

See you here next week!
