WHAT I’M UP TO …

A seafoam green coffee cup is in front of a hand holding a pen writing in a notebook. The text reads, "WHAT I'M UP TO..." and the date.

Between activism, Inkers Con, and my writing and admin work, this week has honestly been kind of a blur.

I attended a No Kings rally last week. There were so many amazing events all around the United States (and worldwide) and it was so encouraging to see that even in a small city in a VERY conservative county, thousands of people showed up to speak up about the choices the current administration is making.

One thing I really liked about the event that I attended was that they encouraged people to “get to know their neighbors”. I ended up talking to the guy next to me about his job as a sex education teacher at a very wealthy private school and how he’s trying to fight back against the ways they’re limiting what he can teach.

I told him about my writing and my concerns with book banning and attacks on LGBTQ+ people. In the end, I felt very encouraged that there are other people out there doing what they can, in whatever small ways, to resist the push toward fascism and extreme conservativism.

In addition, I’ve renewed my commitment to making daily calls to my representatives to tell them my stance on various issues. In the morning, I make my To Do list, work out, do my meditation, make my calls, and then get ready, have breakfast, and sit down to do my work by 9:30 am.

One thing that’s really helped is an app called 5-Calls. I can’t remember if I’ve talked to you about that, but if I did, I think it’s worth mentioning it again. It makes it VERY easy to stay up to date on the latest issues, there’s a script you can use to make the call, and handy links to the phone numbers of all of your specific representatives (based off your zip code).

It reduces a ton of time and friction between knowing you need to call and being able to get it done quickly, efficiently, and without having to come up with words of your own. I write enough of those on a daily basis! I don’t need to feel like I have more work to do.

If you’ve been looking for ways to be more actively involved by pressuring your representatives to resist the current administration’s policies, I highly recommend it.

I’ve also been going full steam ahead with Inkers Con and by the time you read this, it will be wrapping up. I have three pages of projects I want to work on going forward and am very excited about everything that lies ahead.

Want to know what else I’ve been working on?

Writing:

  • I am approaching the 50% mark for book #3 in the Scoring Chances series! Although I’m writing half as much per day so I can focus on the Inkers Con courses, the story is moving along very nicely. I’m finally over that hump and the words are flowing.

Audio:

  • James is making great progress recording Body Check and the audio is available for pre-order on my shop!

  • I am still waiting for Audible to approve the audio files for Scrooge You! and 12 Dates of Christmas. They claim it only takes 10 days, but I know authors who’ve been waiting for months, so … who knows?

Projects:

  • Toronto merch is up on my shop and I loooooove the way it all turned out. See yesterday’s post [add link to post} for more on that.

See you back here next week!
