LAKE VACATION 2.0

This time, my lake vacation was a solo one. I rented a small cottage on Lake Huron for a few days. On the first day, I drove a few hours north to a little town along Michigan’s thumb (if you don’t know, Michigan is shaped like a mitten!), checked into my cottage, and spent the evening settling in and relaxing. 

The second day was very rainy/stormy, so I did a little writing. I know that seems like work but really, the writing part is the easiest bit of being an author. I did some reading and crafty stuff, made myself a nice dinner, and just relaxed. 

The next day was sunny, so I spent all day at a nearby beach. I read a book, had a picnic, walked along the shore and picked up a few pretty rocks and pieces of sea glass, and met a couple of cute dogs named Benjamin and Lettuce (I am now obsessed with the name Lettuce for a dog, and I need to use it in a future book!) After I left the beach, I got a delicious scoop of tipsy peach ice cream, which was peach ice cream with bourbon caramel swirl and cinnamon oatmeal clusters. I the evening relaxing with a book and a glass of wine. 

The day after was my final day there (boo!) so I packed up, checked out, and drove south along the coast. I stopped in several cute little towns, walked along another beach, checked out a crystal shop (with another cute dog I got to pet!), and took a tour of the oldest continually operating lighthouse in Michigan. I climbed 94 very narrow spiral steps to the top of the lighthouse and got to see out over Port Huron, Michigan and across the water to Sarnia, Ontario. It was totally worth the climb, even on a very hot day. 

After, I had dinner then headed home! It was short vacation but really, really nice and something I absolutely needed.
