“Then what’s stopping you?” Micah rubbed a little, teasing him with a promise of how good it could be if he said yes.
“My career, mostly,” Justin muttered.
“Hey,” Micah softened his tone. “I get it. I really do. I have everything to lose. I’m going to be working as hard as anyone to be sure no one finds out about what we’re doing, okay?”
“I know. But I’ve got a shitty poker face, Micah. What if I give something away? What if our involvement clouds my objectivity and I can’t give you the best care?”
“I’m not saying it’s going to be easy,” Micah admitted. “But are you telling me you don’t get lonely on the road? You aren’t horny and worked up and want an outlet?”
Justin remained silent.
“Look, if you don’t want me, I get it. But this seems like the perfect arrangement to me. We both know the risks, and we’d go into it with clear eyes.”
“You’re very persuasive, you know?” Justin said with a wry grin. “Ever thought about becoming a lawyer instead of a ballplayer?”
“Nope.” Micah grinned back. “So, does that mean I’ve won my argument?”
“You’re getting close.”
